It’s not a New Year’s resolution, but a 5-month update

I will not make New Year’s resolutions. I don’t bother making promises to myself I can’t keep.

So instead I’m doing a 5-month check-in on the goals I posted right here on my 34th birthday in the Say it isn’t So post.

1. Start saying no without feeling guilty
Well, I’ve started saying no when I don’t want to.. but I’m still working on the don’t feel guilty part.

2. Get my finances back on track
Working a second job is helping me get there

3. Make money off of my website
I’m not quite there yet, but I know tons of TV stations that can’t make money on theirs– so I will not be hard on myself for this one!

4. Stop obsessing about my site’s traffic stats
Uh, I guess checking twice or more a day doesn’t count, huh?

5. Get my writing published in a national publication
Still not here yet, but I’m about to be interviewed for my second publication on surviving a layoff– not too shabby.

6. Write more honestly about my life experiences
I think I’ve been doing that here on the blog, but I’m going to delve deeper so watch out!

7. Work through unresolved issues for closure
I’m still struggling here, but I need to bury regret and move forward!

8. Travel more
I need a little more finances going here, because Vegas was my only trip this year!

9. Try dating again (like real dinner dates with interesting conversation!)
FAIL. I haven’t had a single date since I first posted these goals. So it’s on for the first half of 2009. If you live in the Tampa Bay area and know someone single and fabulous– shoot me an e-mail!

10. Finally put an end to drunk dialing (and drunk texting!)
DOUBLE FAIL. But I know I can do it!

11. Leave boys, who’ve been deleted from phone contacts, deleted
See note above.

12. Develop a crush
See number 9

13. Turn my loft into an office
I’m almost there, thanks to my Christmas presents and my dad putting the furniture together.

14. Balance my checkbook (last attempt at writing down transactions didn’t last long)
Oops! Did I say I was gonna do this?

15. Read more books (sadly reading has taken a backseat to social media addictions)
I’m back on track, having just read “Eat Pray Love” which has been on my list for a while and “Marley & Me”. I also have two more out from the library ready to read!

16. Remember to take my vitamins every day (or at least almost every day)
Success! I take it

17. Exercise more
Uh, I need to get on this. With my crazy schedule I’ve gotten to only one day a week. I need 3-5.

18. Lose weight
I have lost a few pounds, but have more than a few to go!

19. Eat less fast food
This has been challenging too, but I’m getting there. Since my “lunch break”

20. Get more sleep
Have you heard about my schedule?

21. Pamper myself with more manicures/pedicures/massages
I’ve been better on the mani/pedis– not so much on the massages!

22. Buy another Coach purse (no, you can never have too many and I had to refrain during unemployment!)
I bought a new Coach tote, but does that count since the last one was ruined after the July post!?!?!?!?!?

23. Start writing a book
I’m not there yet, but I do have a working title!

24. Reevaluate my relationships and spend time only on fulfilling ones
I’m working on this one too, and have actually let a few go in the process.

25. Donate blood more frequently
Oh crap! I probably only donated once after this post;(

26. Be more Eco-friendly
I’ve gotten better with using the reusable bags and recycling. But I know I have a ways to go.

27. Learn how to cook more dishes without needing the recipe
I need a few more under my belt here!

28. Learn how to build a website
I still haven’t done this, but I will before the 1 year mark!

29. Meet someone famous
Nope, haven’t done it. But I hope to fulfill this goal during Super Bowl 2009!

30. Take more photos
I’m working on this too. I even posted a few great sunsets just the other day.

31. Keep the condo cleaner
I cleaned it for my Christmas party, does that count? Okay, seriously I hope the office mentioned in #13 will help.

32. Donate more to charity
I’ve done okay here, except instead of charity at Christmas I chose a few people who I personally knew who could benefit from a little Christmas cheer.

33. Buy another pair of Manolo Blahniks
This may have to wait for the big 35 birthday. I actually checked out a few in Vegas and none were better than the pair I already own… well not in my price range anyway.

34. Get married in Vegas (this one’s been on the list for more than 10 years, but it still sounds fun!)
There were no potential husbands when I went in October, I swear!!!!!

I have 7 months to go on the goals, so wish me luck.

Stylishly yours,
Miss Attitude

That is quite a list. Good for you for taking on such tall tasks. Although you admit that you are not successful on all at least you are trying. I have no doubt that you my dear will complete every resolution on your list by your next birthday.

  2. Jeff says:

Writing them down and keep them in front of you is one of the best ways to meet your goals! Good luck 8)

    Monster list, MA!

Here’s to you and delving in head first.

Writing the list is half the battle. Diving in yet another. We will help you with encouragement. Go, accomplish!

This’d be a good one to resurrect come the end of next year, no?

Looks like you made some great progress-I’m totally impressed. Keep up the good work and I’m looking forward to the next update. I like the idea of doing this on your birthday too…might give that a try in about 28 days!

I love your office furniture! Absolutely beautiful.

As for developing a crush – that does not require a date, or even knowing someone. You can crush on ANYONE – just find reasons they are fabulous!

You’re doing great, and have more than half a year to go.

And I know your Christmas generosity is very much appreciated. <3
