Have you met Toady Husband? (Meet the Exes #47)

I’ve been looking for a few good guest bloggers to keep Meet the Exes Mondays alive. I know most of you love these stories and having run low on my own tales, I realize I’m not alone in having some crazy ex stories.

My friend, tweep and fellow blogger As Kat Knits told me last week about how she unknowingly hosted a baby shower for the woman with whom her husband was having an affair. I couldn’t believe it, and asked her if she would mind writing this post.

I appreciate the fact that she was willing to share her story, because she is a wonderful person who didn’t deserve to be treated that way. And that is something many of us can relate to when it comes cheating exes.

Stylishly yours,

I like to think of myself as a perceptive and insightful individual; however, there was a time when I was not even close to being the sharpest knife in the drawer!

When Miss Attitude sent a call out on Twitter for “Meet the Ex” stories and after some thought and deliberation, I decided to offer up my story here for your edification and humor.

Therefore, gentle reader, pour yourself a cup of coffee and pull up a chair, have I got an ex for you!

Before he was the ex, he was the Toady Husband and we were a cute couple, or so I thought. We were living the American Dream… a house in a lovely neighborhood, three darling children, and a dog. Toady Husband had a demanding job, which required frequent and extended periods of travel, and I was living the dream of being Becky Home Ec-ky, staying home with my kids. Life was just grand!

Frequently, Toady Husband would consult for a local company and peddle its wares around the globe, and as such, he would travel with some employees of that company. Most of the time, said employees were men… but there was a woman who occasionally made the rounds with Toady Husband.

It started out as an occasional trip to a convention or trade show, but eventually they were traveling together more frequently. However, I was not at all worried. After all, she was likewise married and to a very nice guy. They had two kids almost the same ages as ours, and we frequently did things together socially.

Life continued in blissful ignorance for me, and I could not imagine a happier life and Toady Husband began to talk about taking a vacation together with the Travel Companion and her husband without any kids. Plans began to take shape for a long weekend away, and off we all headed for a luxury resort and a weekend of adult fun.

Strained would be an understatement for the atmosphere of the weekend. Toady Husband was not happy. Travel Companion was miserable, and her husband was downright surly. The weekend that was supposed to be so much fun in reality was something in which I counted the minutes and longed for it to end. I chalked it up to too much togetherness, oh silly me!

The weekend was not mentioned in our household and life resumed.

Then Black Wednesday happened… Toady Husband came home and shared that Travel Companion’s husband was moving out, there was trouble in “paradise.”

Shocked would be an understatement to describe my reaction, you see Travel Companion was pregnant, and not just. She was like six months along! I wondered what kind of man would leave his pregnant wife?!? Obviously, a husband who finds himself the cuckold that is who!

Still living in the Land Of The Oblivious, I felt so sorry for Travel Companion and more and more frequently, we had her and her kids over for dinner. I would even babysit for her kids sometimes to give her a break.

Toady Husband continued fostering my sympathy toward her and before I knew it, I was planning a baby shower for lonely Travel Companion, complete with cake and games and oodles of gifts and her Fam-Damn-Ly, (and seriously, she is a preacher’s kid, I cannot make this stuff up, people – I swear!).
Travel Companion’s youngest child was almost 9-months-old when her divorce was final.

It was not long after that that I discovered that Toady Husband and Travel Companion were much more than business associates and friends. It seemed that they were playing house on the road, and apparently had been for a very long time.

The ex and his travel squeeze married shortly after our divorce. It is an interesting relationship; she does not trust him to travel by himself.

Gee, I wonder why?

For some reason I am up way early today and decided to see what Miss Attitude was up to and WOW what a story!!! I really want to see this movie played out on the big screen! This, as any other story about an affair, is heartbreaking. But the circumstances here are definitely obnoxious and disgusting.
Shame on “Travel Squeeze” or better name “Travel Twat” for even accepting a baby shower from Kat Knits AND playing the “woe is me” card with her and her family while she was going through her divorce.. No wonder people are skeptical and bitter! It just goes to show you can’t be nice to everyone and believe they are going to remember. There are backstabbing jerks anywhere in any situation. Thank you Kat Knits for sharing this story. I applaud you for your strength and hope you have found happiness. As for the Travel Twit and Twat… I totally believe in Karma. I wonder when they will get divorced? Sounds like they are on shaky ground anyway. You are better off!!! ^_^

Unbelievable! I thought for certain you were going to reveal Toady was the baby-daddy.

    Gracious, Kat.

I am sending a huge thank you to Miss Attitude for letting me share my story here.

As for Naylo’s comment – really, I would rather not see this on the “big screen”!! I hate horror films, LMAO.

WOW Kat Knits, I do not know weather to say “I am sorry” or Thank God you found out now” I do not know how you did it. But I believe in karma and that little hooker and your ex will get theirs and I hope you get to see it. In college one of my good friends and I always said “I don’t understand” and still today we do. I don’t understand what goes through peoples minds. Kat Knits I hope you are happy and healed now!!!

:o OMG!! :o KAT!!! That is unbelievable!! I am so sorry you had to endure that. I am stunned. I truly can’t understand why some people do what they do. :(

Excellent post, thanks for sharing your story.
